Direct and Reported Speech
Direct speech consists of a reporting clause and a person's exact words. The most commonly used verb is said. Quotation marks and capital letters are used to begin direct speech and direct speech is ended with a punctuation.
Example: Our mother said "dont eat the cupcakes in the fridge".
Reported speech is also known as indirect speech, which tells us what someone said in another persons words. It consists of reporting verb in the main clause followed by a clause. The verb form in the indirect speech usually changes, to express a past time.
Example: She said the client was very angry with the service delivery.
